[Abbenay] JTAG programming/unbricking experience

Hi

I have bricked my HTC Hero phone, and thought this would be a good 
opportunity to get my hands dirty doing some JTAG programming.

Does anybody have experience with JTAG programming? Does somebody have a 
programmer or a recommendation on which one to get? Is the parallel port 
type enough for flashing ROMs, or are the more expensive USB models 
required?
