[Abbenay] router battery pack

A simple problem:
I'd like to run a router on batteries. Power requirement are 5,5V and 2,5A.
I'd like to use batteries that are of a common type (such as 1,5V AA),
perhaps rechargeable. I'd need to make a battery pack I guess for which
there are ready-made plastic holders available in every hardware or home
electronics store.
Now what would be the best way to go about this?
I'm a bit confused after readining a bit. Parallell or serial mount? How
long could one expect a certain pack to last and will voltage degradation
become an issue I'd need to take in account for example? What battery type
would be suitable? Is alcalic, lithium-ion, vanadium redox, NiCd, NiMH,
NiFe, NiBar, Foo-ion, Baghdad terracotta containers, parallell heavy-duty
lead acid tank backpacks, several kilos of hot-wired spud, serial lemonade
cannisters or are alternative solutions such as head-mounted large-scale
giga-capacitor reflector solar arrays the way to go? What can we do with
Kool-Aid?
Any suggestions?
